If two looks are important to you on your wedding day, Gown Boutique of Charleston has you covered. We have so many ideas that will totally wow your guest and give you that change that you are looking for. GBC Bride Sarah found the perfect dress and perfect addition to give her the two looks she was wanting!

What were some of your “must haves” for your wedding dress?

It was important to me to have two looks – one for our church ceremony and the other for our reception. Emily of Gown Boutique of Charleston suggested I add detachable straps made of a tulle fabric to be worn at the church and then take it off to show off my strapless dress at the reception. It was the subtle change I was looking for!

Was your vision the same as the wedding dress you choose?

When I got engaged and started to shop for wedding dresses, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted. Turns out I didn’t and before you know it, I was spending hours online looking at wedding dresses feeling very overwhelmed. I read a blog that suggested to find a designer you loved and going from there. I found Stella York on Instagram and her dress styles were exactly what I was looking for – timeless yet modern, classy yet sexy. I looked up shops that carried Stella York and that is how I ended up at Gown Boutique of Charleston!

What did you love most about your gown?

I loved the fabric, sweetheart neckline, silhouette, and the buttons running down the back!

How did you know you had found your wedding dress?

I knew it was my dress because I started to do my happy dance haha! On a serious note, I knew it was my dress because it captured the “look” I was going for – timeless, modern, classy, sexy.

Most memorable moment from your wedding dress shopping experience:

I had planned to make a whole day of wedding shopping with my family and girlfriends. A few weeks earlier, I called Gown Boutique of Charleston to make the appointment, and they said they were having a sample sale that weekend. I knew I couldn’t wait. Who doesn’t love a good deal, especially on a wedding dress! I went to Gown Boutique of Charleston by myself and felt a bit anxious about it. I was greeted by Emily of GBC with a welcoming smile. She talked me through the process of trying on dresses, taking my measurements, picking out accessories, and discussing the timeline. I relied on Emily as my bridal stylist more than others brides might because I went shopping alone! I guess you could say my favorite part of the shopping experience was drinking champagne in my wedding dress.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day:

We got married at the Cedar Room in downtown Charleston. I had always seen couples take pictures on the rooftop of the venue overlooking the Ravenel Bridge. When I asked a month before the wedding, they said the rooftop was closed due to repairs. On our wedding day, we arrived to the venue and were getting ready to go out to cocktail hour when my wedding planner and photographer told us we could go up to the rooftop! It was totally unexpected and ending up being one of my favorite memories of the day! My husband and I were able to have a quiet, relaxed moment together. We loved it, and I think the rooftop photos speak for themselves!

Advice you would give to future brides about planning their wedding:

Hire a wedding planner! It was the best money we spent on our wedding. It was the best feeling in the world to have planned our wedding alongside our planner and then “pass the torch” during wedding week. I didn’t have to worry about a thing and everyone went to her to ask questions instead of me. Worth every penny!

Advice you would give to future brides about wedding dress shopping:

If it is not a “hell yes”, it is a “hell no!” Be honest with yourself while trying on dresses. It is okay to not love a dress or 100 dresses. Keep going and be patient with yourself. You WILL find the most perfect dress.
